João B Calixto graduated in Biological Sciences and received his PhD in Pharmacology in 1984. He was one of the founders of the Department of Pharmacology and the programme of post-graduation from Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Currently he’s a retired Professor of UFSC and IA researcher status Brazilian Research Council of Science and Technology. He’s also member of Brazilian Academy of Science and currently Director of the Centre of Innovation and Pre-clinical research (CIEnP). He was twice president of the Brazilian Pharmacological Society and has received several awards in recognition of his work in basic research and for technological innovation. He published over than 400 research and supervised 38 Masters, 37 PhD, 34 Post Docs. He’s part of the editorial board of several international journals and served as editor of 3 of them and served as referee for dozens of scientific journals. He has several patents and participated of the development of 3 products which are in the market.
